Touba Pilgrimage

(so after I wrote that huge last post about limited internet access, here I am posting just one day later...)

Tomorrow evening I am talking the night bus to Dakar, a direct bus ride - leaving Sokone around 11pm and arriving Dakar at 4:30am or 5am.
After bumming around Dakar on Friday, checking into school and meeting the new semester students, I'll be heading to Touba with the Fall family on Saturday or Sunday. The actual day of pilgrimage is Wednesday January 3rd, however people have been arriving in Touba for the past week and a half.

Below are some links. Check them out or do your own search.

Wikipedia articles: the Muslim brotherhoods of Senegal, the Mouride brotherhood, its founder Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba and his city Touba

Information about the city of Touba as a sacred site

BBC articles: the annual pilgrimage, pictures of the pilgrimage, the brotherhoods

NY Times: Mourides in Harlem, the Mouride work ethic
NPR: audio track about Mourides in Harlem

Hopefully the next post will have lots of pictures!!!
