goodbye dakar, hello sokone

And so life moves on.

Today: DAKAR
dirty, frustrating, crowded, noisy, smelly, fabulous
Tomorrow: ENROUTE
dirtier, crowded-er, extremely dusty,
but
less noisy, less frustrating
(if all goes according to plan, but it has the possibility to all go downhill quickly)
Tomorrow Evening (fingers crossed): SOKONE
relatively clean, relatively peaceful,
but the most frustrating (i.e. marriage proposals)

The hope is to be in Sokone tomorrow afternoon, but that assumes Senegal can be set to a schedule and a clock. Waly will taking Britta, Vu and I to our internship sites at once. We are all in the same region. Vu and I are working in Sokone (Vu has an internship at the hospital), and Britta works at a health clinic in a nearby village (1.5 hours on a good day- the car doesn't break down, and the roads a smooth-ish, and no major potholes, and no livestock herds blocking the way).

I hope to be back in Dakar in the beginning of February to tagalong with the Fall family when they go on pilgrimage... this means mail, ice cream, stock-up on toilet paper, and a chance to meet the new students!
The Spring Semester students are starting to arrive. MSID (my program) won't arrive until next Monday, but groups from Michigan, Mount Holyoke and Wells have arrived in the past week. It has been fun hearing their questions - I get to see how I must have been from a different perspective. What confused me at first - the communal food bowl, rules about the right and the left hand, lack of planning and WAIT (west african international time) - it all seems totally fine now... don't be too impressed, I still have so many questions...

'Til next time,
whenever that is!

(Although I have posted excessively this past week, so no complaining if you don't hear from for a week or two.)
